Father's Day is celebrated worldwide to recognize the contribution that fathers and father figures make to the lives of their children. Father's Day was born in the 15th century. It was then a religious feast, whose date was set on March 19, six days before the Annunciation, by the Catholic calendar. This day was not intended to celebrate fathers, but to celebrate the figure of Joseph, the foster father of Jesus. It is only in the XIXth century that the tradition develops, under the impulse of the pope Pius IX, before sinking into oblivion at the beginning of the XXth century. Funny fact, some countries have retained the date of March 19 to celebrate Father's Day, even when this date has lost its religious connotation. This is the case in Switzerland, Portugal, Spain, Italy and some Latin American countries.
