Spring is one of the four seasons of the year, in the temperate zones. It follows the winter and precedes the summer.
There are several definitions of spring, including meteorological (half season between cold and warm seasons) and calendar (dates vary by country).
In the northern hemisphere, spring is between the first and second quarter of the year and in the southern hemisphere it is between the third and last quarter of the year.
This season, traditionally a mark of renewal in nature, is characterized by a gradual softening of temperature, melting of snow, budding and flowering of plants, the awakening of hibernating animals and the return of some migratory animals.
